There is a marvellous amount of nothing to do in Achiltibuie.

After breakfast Mark, Gerry and Bob will always be happy to help you plan your day. Alternatively, the sands of Achnahaird are just down the road and there is always a sheltered rock if you just want to sit and soak up the endless tranquillity.

Walking

A collection of tried and favourite walks, which vary in length from 3 to 30 miles, may be found by every bed. This area is unrivalled in the variety and scale it offers including delightful coastal routes as well as the famous ancient sandstone hills of Stac Pollaidh, Suilven and Ben More Coigach. The area is of great geological interest and has recently been awarded Geo Park Status. Knockan Crag Visitor centre tells the history of the rocks.


Boat Trips

The Hectoria, a local cruise boat takes people round the islands to see the seals and rare birds. Sailings are twice daily at 10.30 am and 2.15 pm . No need to book (not Sundays) Information 01854 622200

The Summer Queen sails from Ullapool to the Summer Isles daily stopping on Tanera Mor. Tel 01854 612472.

The Achiltibuie Smokehouse

Summer Isles Foods began in the hotel over 20 years ago and continue producing award winning smoked and cured salmon, kippers and eel.



Hydroponicum

The Hydroponicum at Achiltibuie is the premier centre for the demonstration of soilless growing in the UK . Tours daily throughout the season on the hour from 10 am - 6pm. Tel 01854 622202

Fly Fishing

Fishing available to let from the hotel:-

  • Boat on Loch Oscaig for Seatrout from end June to September £30.00 per day
  • Brown Trout fishing on the Hill Lochs £6.00 per day

Hill Lochs - a delightful group of five small lochs yielding plentiful brown trout from April- September. A stiff walk one hour from the hotel. No waders required.

Southern banks of River Oscaig, Loch Badagyle, Loch Lurgainn and Green Loch- brown trout and some sea trout from end of June to September. Waders normally required to gain access.

Loch Oscaig - boat only - largely a sea trout and salmon loch fishing well from end of June to early September.

Loch Lurgainn - by boat - a large, deep loch, Lurgainn will usually provide plentiful brown trout. Sea trout and salmon do move up into this far end of the system so you may be lucky.

Day Trips

Inverewe Gardens are reached within 2 hours drive- a famous garden begun by Osgood Mackenzie making use of the gulf stream.

Handa Island, just 1 ¾ hours drive north, a bird reserve where you can see breeding seabirds including puffins and arctic skua. Boat trips leave every 15 minutes in season.

Lochinver and Kylesku

A drive north through Inverpolly Nature reserve along the ‘wee mad road' takes you to the fishing village of Lochinver . Visit the famous Achins Bookshop along the way and Highland Stoneware amongst others. Boat trips from Kylesku go inland up the sea loch to visit Europe 's longest waterfall or to Kerracher Gardens.

Beaches

Fabulous white sand beaches are found at Achmelvich and Clashnessie.


Ullapool Village

The village of Ullapool is 25 miles from Achiltibuie (45 mins drive). Shops, restaurants, museum, art gallery, swimming pool, tennis courts etc
